Growing up in South Korea, Joanne was born in a family of artists who inspired her to take up art. After receiving a BA in Industrial  Design at Sook Myung Women's University, sponsored by the Royal Palace in South Korea, she became interested in traditional decorative paintings. Her passion lead her to America where she furthered her education and made decorative arts furniture her focus.
